Physicians Health Plan Announces New Medicare Advantage PPO Plan

Lansing, Mich.— Physicians Health Plan (PHP) today announced the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved the launch of a new Medicare Advantage PPO plan for the 2024 annual enrollment period. PHP Medicare Advantage PPO offers beneficiaries an additional option when choosing a Medicare plan that is right for them.

Physicians Health Plan launched PHP Medicare plans in 2019 in collaboration with Covenant HealthCare, Sparrow Health System, and University of Michigan Health to offer Medicare beneficiaries throughout Michigan access to quality, affordable healthcare. PHP Medicare plans are offered throughout 17 counties in Michigan: Bay, Calhoun, Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Huron, Ingham, Ionia, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Livingston, Montcalm, Sanilac, Saginaw, Shiawassee, Tuscola, and Washtenaw.

PHP Medicare plans have earned a 4.5 (out of 5) star rating from CMS for HMO-POS plans since 2021 (the first year of being eligible to be rated), with the most recent rating published in October 2022 for plan year 2023. Plan year 2024 Star Ratings have not yet been released by CMS. Every year, Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system. The PHP Medicare Advantage PPO plan is too new to be measured.

In addition to launching a new PPO plan, PHP Medicare is excited to announce the expansion of its University of Michigan Health Advantage plan service area, which for the new year plan year will include Calhoun, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Livingston, and Washtenaw counties. Regardless of which PHP Medicare plan members choose, they have access to PHP Medicare’s statewide network.

Medicare-eligible seniors can enroll in PHP Medicare plans during the Medicare annual enrollment period which begins on Oct. 15 and ends on Dec. 7, 2023. Coverage for beneficiaries begins Jan. 1, 2024.
