About PHP

History

Physicians Health Plan began more than 40 years ago as mid-Michigan's first broad-based independent practice association (IPA), an early model for health maintenance organizations (HMO). In 1982, PHP's first healthcare plans were introduced.

Today, PHP is owned by two of Michigan's top health systems, University of Michigan Health and Covenant HealthCare, and offers healthcare plans to individuals and employer groups across Michigan.

Governance

PHP's Medicare product is governed by a board of directors which is responsible for establishing and overseeing corporate policy, and it is supported by designated committees covering areas such as operations, quality improvement, care coordination, finance, credentialing and pharmacy and therapeutics.
